Cannock Area Guide

Living in Cannock

Cannock lies just to the south of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which means the town offers peaceful, rural nature trails and bike tracks while still being within easy reach of the City of Birmingham, the town of Walsall and Lichfield Cathedral City.

As each suburb of Cannock was once an individual village, they still retain their own high streets with shops, pubs and restaurants, meaning residents don’t always need to travel to the city centre for everyday amenities.

History and Geography

Cannock was a small rural community until mining increased heavily during the mid-to-late 19th century. The town then grew rapidly with many industries coming to the area because of its proximity to the Black Country and its coal reserves. Suburbs developed as the area’s popularity grew and soon Hednesford, Heath Hayes and Huntington stretched through Walsall to join the town up with the pretty local villages of Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley.

Property in Cannock

Cannock offers a wide variety of property types and a range of price brackets - making the town an attractive choice for tenants and buyers alike. Cannock also offers superb value for money, with the average cost of a three-bedroom family home being around £150,000-£200,000 (although property in areas such as Shoal Hill can cost in the region of £500,000 and above).
